Our charitable status comes from our heritage.
IGD was formed in 1909 to provide education through information and training in handling products for people who worked in grocery stores. Our charitable aims have not changed and today the need for education is still there, but it is different.
Now we deliver public benefit as a charity by:
-
Providing information and practical training that enables people working in the industry to deliver for consumers and to develop personally
-
Helping people and the industry make informed choices on diet, health and nutrition
-
Driving sustainable improvements in the industry through collaboration and sharing best practice along the supply chain
We, and all registered charities, are regulated by the Charity Commission. We operate in accordance with CC10 The Hallmarks of an Effective Charity and other guidance issued by the Charity Commission to ensure we are efficient and transparent in all that we do.
Our Funding
We generate income through trading activities to provide funds to achieve our goals.
Trading activities are conducted through a subsidiary company, IGD Services Limited, which is owned 100% by IGD.
