Bringing industry together to help consumers to lead healthier lifestyles.

UK shoppers have the highest level of nutrition knowledge in Europe - more than 80% of people are able to identify healthy options using front-of-pack labelling systems. As a responsible industry we are working hard to help ordinary people live healthier lives and choose a balanced diet.

For example, voluntary action by the food industry has been directly responsible for the drop in average consumer intakes of trans fats by more than half. It now accounts for just 1% of food energy intake. And UK average salt consumption fell by 9.5% between 2001 and 2006es.

IGD provides a forum to tackle projects that are better achieved as an industry than by companies or organisations acting alone. The outcomes bring sustainable improvements for the general public.
